Privacy and cookies

We collect as little as we can. Analytics run only if you accept them, and you can change your choice at any time.

Who is responsible for your data

The data controller for benchbarista.co.uk is The Bench Barista team. Contact details: to be added before launch.

What we collect, and why

  • Analytics, only if you accept cookies. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages and links are useful. If you reject cookies, no analytics cookies are set, and Google receives only a signal with no cookie and no identifier, which we use to estimate total visits. Our legal basis is your consent.
  • Your email address, only if you join our email list. We keep it with the date and the page you signed up on, and use it only to send our email. Our legal basis is your consent.
  • Nothing else. The site has no accounts and no comments, and it never asks for payment details.

We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

Cookies

When you first visit, a banner asks you to accept or reject analytics cookies. To change your choice, use "Cookie settings" at the bottom of any page.

  • bb-consent (your browser's storage): remembers your choice.
  • _ga and _ga_*, set by Google Analytics only after you accept. They last up to 2 years.

When you follow a link to Amazon or play a YouTube video, that company's own privacy and cookie terms apply.

Our email list

We send about one email a month. The first one asks you to confirm your address, and we delete addresses that are not confirmed. Each email has a link to unsubscribe, and we delete your address when you leave or when you ask us to.

Who handles your data for us

Service providers that host this website, run our analytics and keep our email list. They use the data only on our instructions. Some of them can keep data outside the UK, with the safeguards that UK law requires.

How long we keep it

Analytics data for 14 months. Your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, withdraw your consent at any time, and object to how we use it. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
